On the afternoon of March, 30th, students from year 2 class3 had a class meeting about character education. Mr. Pu, who believes character education can shape a good life, taught the first lesson about concentration.

“Focus on listening to others’ opinions and showing respect, this is called concentration.” A female student with a resonant voice, read the subtitle on the big screen positively and confidently, and the rest of the students also focused on the big screen and listened to her. When Mr. Pu asked, “how do the deer guard against danger signals?”The students actively raised their hands and enthusiastically answered the question. When someone was stood up and the other students also raised their hands and tried to speak, Mr. Pu said:” when someone has stood up to answer the question, we should put down one’s hands, eyes following the students who is answering the question, this is the way to show your respect”. The children then put down their hands, and did as the teacher said.

How to focus?” When we can let our five senses, such as vision, smell, touch and taste focus at the same time, which is we call concentration”.

At last, the children read out loud the five conventions-“I will look at the people who talk to me, I will sit or stand upright properly, and when I have questions I will ask the teachers later and not interrupt others. I will always keep my eyes, ears, hands, feet, mouth focused on one thing”.

Through the whole class, teacher always gave specific comments about each child at the right time. Children also raised their hands to speak about self-criticism about their inattentive behaviors.

Through this class on developing good characters, students learned what concentration is and how to concentrate. We believe that they now understand the importance of focus and know how to focus, and with the help of parents and teachers; they will concentrate on life, focus on learning and form this characteristic.
