This week I taught Grade 2 and 3 all about the different rooms in a house. They have previously learned about words such as "window" and "door", and I felt teaching them about houses was a good follow-one from this. Firstly we went over what rooms there are in a house, including; bedroom, kitchen, living room, garden, garage, study, bathroom, and attic. Then with Grade 3 I asked them to tell me what they do in certain rooms, as well as what each room contains. I recieved some excellant answers from them, including things such as; have lunch (kitchen), do homework (living room), drink water (kitchen) etc. I really enjoy giving the children thinking exercises to encourage them to think outside the box when it comes to their english answers.

After the children had learned the words we went on to the fun part of the lesson! I gave each student a piece of paper and taught them how to make an origami house with both an outside and inside part to decorate and label. They really loved making the houses, and I think I may use a more complex version of this lesson for the older grades in the future. Some of their drawings were really amazing, and their houses were all so well thought out. I only wish I had longer with them so we could spend more time together so they could colour them and make them beautiful.
