Christmas is nearly here! It feels strange to be here in a country that doesn't celebrate it, as in the UK, where I am from, it is our biggest and most important holiday. Every year our Queen gives a Christmas day speech, and one of the things she said last year has rung very true for me since I have started teaching at Tanghu Elementary.

"But to be inspirational you don’t have to save lives or win medals. I often draw strength from meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things: volunteers, carers, community organisers and good neighbours; unsung heroes whose quiet dedication makes them special."

    This message of everyday good deeds being inspirational is especially true at our school. I see this every day with the teachers who selflessly give up their own time to help children achieve great things, who give so much with no expectation of anything in return. The staff of Tanghu has always been so lovely to me, whether by giving me tips on my lessons, or Ella who has so kindly helped me try to track down post sent from home. I aspire to one day be like all these amazing teachers, who are the magic that makes our school so special.
