Dress to impress

Grade 1 have been learning all about clothing; T-Shirt, Jacket, Sweater, Socks, Trousers, and Skirt. The students picked up the new vocabulary relatively quickly, and we got to move onto the games! I had originally planned to play the games ‘what’s missing’ (where the students close their eyes and then have to guess which word I have taken away and suggested to me by Celia) and dress the stick person (where they place the item of clothing over the correct body part), but it seems we got too excited playing the ‘touching game’!

Grade 2 learnt all about big cats, along with the words; donkey, fox, and panda! Just like grade 4! I didn’t teach them the long poem about Tigers, Leopards, and Lions, however, as I think it would have overwhelmed the students. I had the chance to play ‘what’s missing’ with grade 2, but it is very difficult to make sure all the students have their eyes closed! Overall, the lessons went very well. When I play the ‘touching game’ with grade 2, I run the first few rounds myself, but then I hand the game over to another student. I think this makes sure that the students are learning the vocabulary as much as possible my speaking it as much as possible!

Lindsay’s grade 1 class learnt about farm animals like; pig, cow, sheep, and chicken and I once again had my mini-teacher Steven! It was nice for me to give him the chance to run some of the games. Lindsay was kind enough to tell me a game that she plays with her class, it is called bomb I believe. The game involves me holding up the flashcards of the animals and going through them, but somewhere in the deck a picture of a bomb is hidden! When the students see this card, they must cover their heads and put their heads low on the desk. It was very fun!
