Begin Again!
After a week-long national holiday and getting to see some of the amazing sights; Jin Li Street and Wuhou Temple, it is time to get back into the routine of teaching! This week the teachers and students were in school on the Saturday and Sunday, and what an enjoyable weekend it was! Feeling excited to get back into school, albeit a little tired, I had the opportunity to teach grade 3. I was expecting the kids to be a little wild due to being in on a weekend, but each class were incredibly well behaved and ready to learn, it was a joy! I was particularly excited to start teaching grade 3 more in depth, as I have only taught one grade 3 class before! It was very fun for me (and the students hopefully!) and I look forward to teaching them again. Grade 3 were learning all about Phonics, the letter and sound of ‘a’ to be precise. I prepared a few songs that I hoped would be fun for the classes to learn, but it turns out I didn’t need them! I fellow teacher, Victoria, was kind enough to show me a book called Dan the Ant. The book was a story about how Dan the ant was hungry and needed a snack, and his adventures to find and eat something! The book featured so many examples of phonics in use and it was extremely helpful. It is times like this that I am so grateful for the teachers around me and how helpful and kind they all are! Once Monday came around it was time to get back into the normal routine! I was back to teaching grade 4 and 5, and how nice it was to see these classes again! We were learning all about Big Cats; Lions, Tigers, and Leopards, along with Pandas, Donkey’s and Foxes. On Wednesday, I was beginning to feel a little drained but the classes picked up the new words so quickly and were so enthused by the lesson that one class even cheered me as I walked in. It was very funny and it just gave me the burst of energy that I needed! This week also had another special event; the reopening of the canteen! It was lovely to be able to sit, eat some lovely food, and get to know the other teachers even more. Once again the teachers have been so warm and kind to me, Lisa and Cathy even helped me order a present for my friend! Next week my father will be visiting from England, hopefully he has the opportunity to visit the school and meet everyone!
