Older and wiser!
This week I taught grades 5 and 6! I was a little nervous at first, because I did not know whether I'd be able to incorperate games and activities with an older age of kids; would they not want to play, would it be too easy for them? I didn't want my lessons being boring now! With my first grade 6 class, I fazed my use of games out and focussed mainly on a speaking activity, and the kids seemed to enjoy it so I was happy! However, my grade 6 classes that I had later in the week seemed more capable and zoomed through the speaking task so quickly! In the midst of panicking that I had run out of material for the lesson, and I hadn't made it hard enough I decided to being back the trusty 'Touch game'. I spoke about this game in last week's log and it never fails to go down a treat! This time was no different and I believe it really helped the kids grasp the vocabulary and the differeces in the sounds of certain words. I decided not to incorperate the touch game for all of my grade 6 classes, however, as I felt it was better to really hone in and focus of pronunciation and the speaking task as this is what they would really benefit from the most. I recieved such nice feedback from the grad 6 teachers. They have all been so lovely and supprortive, giving me tips on how to manage their individual classes and how I could improve for next time! My grade 5 classes went down just as well as I had hoped as well. I used my time in the grade 5 classes to go around to each child and explain the new vocabulary individually, I think it is important to give as much one on one time as you can! The teachers for grade 5 were also very very kind and helpful, I am very appreciative! |
