Building a farm with Grade 6
This week I taught Grade 6 again. After how successful the farm lessons were with the younger grades I once again recreated this lesson with more difficult vocabulary for Grade 6. I really enjoy teaching Grade 6; their levels of english are much more advanced than the younger grades, and we can often have proper conversations. Every time I teach them they surprise me with their confidence and their abilities! In order to make this lesson a bit more advanced so as to really challenge the Grade 6's, I made it so we not only talked about "What lives on a farm?" and "What grows on a farm?", but also about "What lives in a field?" and "What grows in a field?". We went over "in" and "on", and they practiced the difference throughout the lesson. I also added in a few 'trick' questions: they were all really surprised when I would ask them what lives in a zoo! Throughout the lessons I enjoy asking a few random questions to test their listening skills and comprehension. As well as what lives on a farm, we also went over; what lives in a zoo, house, sea, forest, river etc. The children were all much meaner than I was when it came to asking questions! They asked each other some really difficult questions, but it was really nice to see them challenge each other and think of questions themselves instead of relying on me to tell them what to say. Hopefully we can work on this to build their confidence in engaging in more complex conversations. |
