First classes and Teachers’ Day
This week saw me teach my own classes for the first time. I taught the lovely year fours about “getting ready in the morning”, and the grade fives about “summer holidays”. They were all so polite and well behaved, and I was thrilled with how excited they all were to have class. I played the ‘word association game’ with the year fives, and they all got fiercely competitive! The game involves them having to write down as many words they can think of associated with a certain topic, in this case places they go on holiday. They all got extremely enthusiastic, and loved trying to come up with the most words each. Although there were not a lot of games played with the year fours this week due to the nature of their lesson, in the lesson with class 1 the computer would not worked and so we played a game of ‘teacher says' instead. This involves issuing commands for the children to follow, that enable them to learn and remember left/right, as well as different parts of the body. Some of the children came to the front to be ‘teacher’, and I was really impressed with how quickly they understood and played the game. This weekend was also the 10th of September, aka teachers day. This is not a holiday we celebrate in Britain, so I was very confused when all the children came in with flowers! Despite the fact I had only been there a week, everyone was so generous in giving me some chocolates and flowers. Not only did the children give me some, but the other teachers very kindly gave me some as well. Sadly I had to leave in the afternoon before lunch, so I missed a large part of the celebration. It was still lovely to receive flowers, and I think I have definitely repaid my students with the 300 stickers I gave out this week! Next week are my first classes with the year ones and twos; here's hoping they are as enthuastic and amazing as the year fours and fives, and I don’t run out of stickers by Tuesday. |
